Funky Sundays!
What is it?

Based on the late 60's Queens, New York club of the same name and a hot location for the seething cauldron of latino urban funk commonly known as Boogaloo, this club celebrates organ driven 60's and 70's soul groove, acid jazz, proto-funk and Boogaloo, with vinyl breaks during live funk jam sessions featuring musicians from the Convulsions, Half a Day and Boo Boo Kiddy Fonc.

Our debut weekly session is the Funky Sunday Afternoon Jam at Crows in Lancaster (10 King Street, Lancaster, LA1 1JN, Tel: 01524 382 888).

The decks start spinning 2pm the first jam starts 2.30pm and the whole lot is meant to wrap up by 5pm (but doesn't have to)

What music is featured?

The musicians will play a mixture of originals, spur of the moment heavy funk jams and covers. Artists covered by the live band and the vinyl breaks will include some or more of:

James Brown, Pee Wee Ellis, Maceo Parker, Rufus Thomas, Clarence Carter, Jimmy McGriff, Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Booker T & The MGs, James Taylor Quartet, Link Quartet, Willie Mitchell, Dovells, Earl King, Etta James, Isley Brothers, Kingsmen, Sonics, Standells, Herbie Hancock, Fabulous Counts, and more
